Artist Statement

I am a potter who makes humble, comforting tableware meant to be in service every day

Gathering around a meal helps establish a community. I see the pots I create as part of that tableau that is creating community. Perhaps not the reason for gathering, but in support of gathering.

The pots and action of choosing a life making art are a subversive element that we allow into time with family and friends, using works of art as a way to nourish ourselves and one another.

I find that the communal atmosphere created through pottery, food, and drink is what draws me to make work, and inspires the tableware I produce.

The communal spirit I feel in the objects I collect, and the food I share with friends and family, I hope is imparted to others when they bring one of my ceramic vessels into their own homes.

A little about me

I’m a potter.

Originally from Yuba City, California.

I became interested in clay, having seen pots that my grandparents made after retiring from farming and running the house.

I attended Sacramento State University and studied under Scott Parady, Sunshine Cobb, and Chuck Owens.

I was an assistant to Sunshine Cobb, and a short term resident at Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology.

I’m currently an MFA candidate at Utah State University.
